The use of bash shell and expect tcl in combination has been around for decades. It started when modem control and connectivity was the daily rigor. As we automated router and switch configuration, the same scripts could be tailored to that work. Many of the following examples come from that time. Orchestration today is done with scripting in much the same way. The difference today is that all things virtual can be modularized and delivered in that method. The Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Kubernetes, Salt, Kickstart, KVM, VBOX, Vmware, PKI, LDAP, DNS, and myriad other virtual services, devices, and platforms all orchestrate, modularize, library, console, and centrally manage. Scripted orchestration facilitates the production of, and integration of the uniform and timely finished service or device.
